Amongst a tempestuous sea awash in gradients of thickly brushed oceanic blues, Lobert inserts an arctic block of light, her first time in breaking up the composition of her canvas in this fashion. Perhaps a cube of hope amid quarantine’s forced confinement; an accidental silver lining of joy granted within the global mandate to be alone; or a beacon of the inevitable brightness that can be found in even the darkest of shadows. An outburst appears central through spontaneous marks loud as an exclamation point, splotched evidence of the artist’s thrown brush.
